January 13, 2004 Barenbrug USA was granted a Utility Patent, “U.S Patent no. 6,677,507”, for a

Tall Fescue Variety Having Rhizomes

This patent covers Barenbrug’s unique variety Labarinth (RTF®). The patent also covers further development of Labarinth (RTF®), any future varieties derived from Labarinth(RTF®) and any variety with Labarinth (RTF®) characteristics. Therefore crossings with Labarinth (RTF®), in an effort to develop new varieties with rhizomes, remain Barenbrug’s exclusivity.

Sod grown from a seed blend containing Labarinth (RTF®) is also subject to the patent. Barenbrug has licensed the RTF® Turf Producers Association as the only producer and marketer of RTF® sod. Any other individual or organization claiming they grow or sell RTF® sod would be in violation of the patent. Check the sod section of this website for further information.
